I don’t believe Konjac has been tested in the United States. I tried looking it up scientific papers from other countries but I haven’t found any that give an oxalate value. Most of these studies were looking at the effect konjac had on oxalate crystals, not how much oxalate the konjac had. You might want to try looking it up yourself (try google scholar). I only spent about ten minutes in case it was an easy find that we could add to the master list. Good luck and let me know if you find out.

I was in the ER on Monday, had kidney stone.Could not believe this happen to me. I really try to eat right but I think I O.D. On veggies. Every morning I make a green drink, with kale, spinach, and chard, withe a hand full of frozen strawberries and coconut milk blend all in the vita-mix. Plus throw a scoop of green powder in it. This drink keeps me going and feeling good till lunch, but now I have to change a bit.How much is too much of green veggies? And if you soak nuts does that help as far as being high in Oxalate?
Also fiber to me was so important, I have regular bowel movements a day, usually twice, it seems the low or moderate oxalate diet you are limited. I’m hoping this experience is just I over loaded my body and that I possibly can eat greens again. I’m drinking lots of water right now to flush out my body, I feel so empty inside because I’m not eating a lot now. Any suggestions, will sure help me.

You’re welcome. I hope you enjoy rooibos tea as much as I do. Tea and chocolate are often sited as the hardest things to give up on the low oxalate diet. I hear that again and again. Kukicha (Japanese twig tea) is listed in the Low Oxalate Cookbook 2 as low oxalate (under 5 mg. per cup), but the exact oxalate content is not given. It has not been retested with the more modern testing techniques, but Dr. Michael Liebman (scientific adviser for the Low Oxalate Cookbook 2) felt the methods used were good enough to include it in the cookbook under the vague heading “low”. The only groups that are currently testing foods for oxalate content are the VP Foundation and the Autism Oxalate Project (the actual testing is done in Dr. Liebman’s lab.) You may contact either group with your testing requests (you need to be a member of the VP Foundation to make a specific request of the foundation). A donation is highly appreciated, but not absolutely necessary. It costs $50-60 per item. I know some people have used the Autism Oxalate Project as a go-between to send samples of favorite foods in to be tested while assuming all expenses for the testing. This might be an option also.
Good luck.
Heidi

I’ve been a green, bancha, and twig tea drinker (Choice Tea) and cannot imagine life without some kind of hearty tea to drink. Do you have any idea if twig tea has been tested, or where one might have something tested? Twig is the roasted twigs and stems from the tea plant. It has very low in caffeine and tannins. I just came across the oxalate diet yesterday and am going to give it a try for my energy, joint pain, and gut issues. Tea and chocolate may be the most difficult things to give up!
